WHAT DOES grounded Program design LOOK LIKE?

In Spring 2021, facilitators from Seachange Collective led a virtual workshop series based on the principles of Grounded Program Design to support the Harold Hunter Foundation (HHF) team in developing a shared language, lens, and social justice grounding as they prepared for a program development and redesign process.

HEAR WHAT OUR PARTNERS AT HHF HAVE TO SHARE about the work we did together:

The Harold Hunter Foundation (HHF) is a grassroots, skateboard community-based organization whose mission is to use skateboarding as a vehicle to provide NYC youth with valuable experiences that nurture individual creativity, resourcefulness, and the development of life skills.

Collaboration with Seachange Collective

“We wanted to learn more in regards to equity and justice work through a radical lens, addressing the systemic and structural roots of oppression and apply it to our mission and programs. It was also a good chance to see how we can improve our already structured programs and how we as agents of change can better our work.

[Our work with Seachange] “was very reflective on how we are as a team and how much we all are on the same page about combating racism/oppression and looking into ways to empower the skate community with empathy and equity. It was also a strong reflection on how we operate as an organization, how we are not aiming to be a top down organization and instead, really focusing on our participants/coaches to assist with shaping our programs. We enjoyed the conversations we had where there were moments to take time and really reflect on certain case studies, it was relative to our work and also helped us come up with solutions to tackle future problems.

Looking To The Future

“Overall it was a good reflection on how we can improve not only how we operate (infrastructure, culture) but how to always ensure that whatever we do, whether events or programs, we focus on our core values which include social justice, galvanizing community leaders, and advocating to combat against any oppression. Our team was happy to be together and we appreciated Seachange Collective for their presentations and good conversations.”
